Both the private and charter schools offer a traditional 403B, which is comprised of mutual funds and target-date funds from which any participant can select. Unlike the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System (MPSERS), our 403B plan is fully funded and portable. You are immediately vested and do not need to meet any employment requirements in order to retain your investment in the 403B.
To work at a charter school, yes certification by the state of Michigan is required. The state does provide for a one-year provisional certification for those pursuing a Michigan certification while teaching. A degree in the field is strongly preferred for certain subjects.
